Dear Colleagues, It has been nearly two months since I last provided you with an update of the Radiation Oncology Chair Search. I am writing to you as Committee Chair to update you on the progress the Committee has made thus far, and to apprise you of our next steps and anticipated timeline. The Committee has received 12 CV’s from potential chair candidates thus far. Of the 12 applicants, the Committee has decided to bring 6 in for a 1.5 day visit during the months of July and August. The Committee continues to review CV's and applications and will consider further invitations. Below are the dates of the candidate visits that we have scheduled thus far. The names of the candidates will be forthcoming as each itinerary is completed for circulation. Please know that a search for a departmental chairperson is a very confidential process and we kindly ask members of the department to refrain from contacting colleagues at outside institutions regarding any of our candidates. The vetting of candidates is the responsibility of the Search Committee.
Because the Committee’s foremost charge is to deliver a slate of 3 outstanding candidates with impeccable professional credentials and personal integrity, it is impossible to predict our timeline for completion, but neither will we dawdle in our task. I will write to you again when there is progress to report. In the meantime, the Dean's Office will schedule faculty meetings with the candidates. If possible, for the faculty meeting we will target 5:30 PM on the first day of their visit; video conference will be available for those of you who will be off site. Best regards, Valerie M. Parisi , MD, MPH, MBA |

Approximately two months ago the Radiation Oncology Chair Search Committee received its charge to identify well-qualified candidates for the next Chairperson of the Department of Radiation Oncology. I am writing to you as the Committee Chair to update you on our progress and to apprise you of our next steps and anticipated timeline. The Search Committee is comprised of elected faculty members of the Department, individuals selected by the Dean and leaders representing our major hospital partners, the Detroit Medical Center, Karmanos Cancer Center and the VA Medical Center. For information regarding the search committee membership or the process, please visit http://admin.med.wayne.edu/radiationoncology/index.php. We began the search process by seeking input from the radiation oncology faculty, trainees and the Search Committee on the desired professional and personal characteristics for the next Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology. The product was a consensus document outlining the specifications for the position (see attached). The Committee will cast a wide net, reaching out nationally to individuals eminently qualified for the position at national meetings and through ASTRO, NCI Cancer Centers, AAMC Deans and Chairs, as well as connections with colleagues at outside institutions. As important members of WSU's family, we turn to you for nominations of well-qualified individuals for this position. If you know of such candidates, please forward the individual's name, institution and contact information to my attention (vparisi@med.wayne.edu). As part of its charge, the Search Committee was asked to bring candidates through as early as June. Upon completion of the candidate interviews, the Committee will deliver a "short list" of 3 candidates to Dean Mentzer for his consideration. This will conclude the charge of the Search Committee and the Dean will make the final selection. Because the Committee's foremost charge is to deliver a slate of outstanding candidates with impeccable professional credentials and personal integrity, it is impossible to predict our timeline for completion. However, it is my hope that the Search Committee will conclude this process by the end of this Fall. I will write to you again when there is progress to report. Sincerely, Valerie M. Parisi, MD, MPH, MBA Vice Dean for Hospital Relations and Clinical Affairs Interim Chief Medical Officer, University Physician Group Professor, Obstetrics & Gynecology |
