Dear Colleagues,
Approximately two months has past since the Physiology Chair Search Committee received its charge to identify well-qualified candidates for the next Chairperson of the Department of Physiology. I am writing to you as the Committee Chair to update you on our progress and to apprise you of our next steps and anticipated timeline.
The Search Committee is comprised of elected faculty members of the Department and individuals selected by the Dean. Information regarding the chair search and a listing of the committee may be found at http://admin.med.wayne.edu/physiology/index.php.
We began the search process by seeking input from the physiology faculty, graduate trainees and the Search Committee on the desired professional and personal characteristics for the next Chair of the Department of Physiology. The product was a consensus document outlining the specifications for the position (see attached).
The Committee will cast a wide net, reaching out nationally to individuals eminently qualified for the position at national meetings, direct solicitations from members of the American Physiological Society, AAMC Deans and Chairs, as well as connections with colleagues at outside institutions. In addition, an advertisement of this position will be published in Science.
As important members of WSU's family, we turn to you for nominations of well-qualified individuals for this position. If you know of such candidates, please forward the individual's name, institution and contact information to my attention (lhazlett@med.wayne.edu).
As part of its charge, the Search Committee was asked to bring candidates through as early as June. Upon completion of the candidate interviews, the Committee will deliver a "short list" of 3 candidates to Dean Mentzer for his consideration. This will conclude the charge of the Search Committee and the Dean will make the final selection.
Because the Committee's foremost charge is to deliver a slate of outstanding candidates with impeccable professional credentials and personal integrity, it is impossible to predict our timeline for completion. However, it is my hope that the Search Committee will conclude this process by the end of this year.
I will write to you again when there is progress to report.
Sincerely,
Linda Hazlett, PhD
